The Sages of India
In this talk that followed a celebration of H. H. Sri Swami Sivanandaji’s Jayanthi (the birth anniversary of Swami Satchidananda’s Guru), Sri Gurudev speaks about the saints and sages of India. Sri Gurudev tells numerous stories about his own spiritual master as well as other renowned spiritual giants. Each story offers a teaching filled with spiritual wisdom and shines a light on the state of kaivalya (absolute freedom) in which these sages lived. He recounts the story of Duryodhana and Dharmaputra, disciples of Dronacharya, illuminating the spiritual truth that, “The entire world is nothing but your own projection.”
Sri Gurudev goes on to explain that Dronacharya’s teaching is the basis of Swami Sivananda’s prayer, “Grant us an understanding heart, equal vision, balanced mind,” which should be our aim in spiritual life. This talk also contains stories of child devotees who offered worship to God revealing the simplicity, power and beauty of Bhakti Yoga.
