About the presenter
Mala Cunningham, Ph.D. is the Founder and Director of Cardiac Yoga and is the President of Positive Health Solutions. Dr. Cunningham is also a Counseling Psychologist in private practice in Charlottesville, Va and is an Assistant Professor at the University of Virginia Medical School where she teaches courses on Complementary and Alternative Medicine. She is the psychologist for the University of Virginia Cardiac Rehab Center and works with heart patients in the area of stress management, cardiac yoga and psychosocial care.
Dr. Cunningham served for three years on the Board of Directors of the Va. Association for Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehab. and has worked with heart patients since 1983. She is currently the Director for the committee on Complementary and Alternative Medicine at the University of Virginia Medical Center and also initiated a monthly educational series on Complementary Medicine at the Univ. of Va. Dr. Cunningham has certification in Aricular Acupuncture and she is a certified yoga teacher from two traditions. She has practiced and taught hatha yoga and meditation for 27 years and has developed specialized programs in Yoga and Psychotherapy, Peer Counseling, Yoga Therapy, the Chakras and Healing Energies, and Cardiac Yoga . Dr. Cunningham has lectured extensively both nationally and internationally and is a widely-recognized authority on stress management, yoga & psychotherapy, and cardiac yoga.
